This Finnish poker wonder has also built a reputation as being a tennis player, tennis coach, and even a professional model at one point in time in his career. Today, he is well-known for racking up cash and playing the meanest poker around. Find out some information on Patrik Antonius, and what made him one of the best professional poker players in the world.

Patrik Antonius was born in Helsinki, Finland on December 13, 1980. When he was a young boy, he had a passion for tennis, and had hopes of becoming a professional tennis player after he had finished high school. However, due to serious back injuries, specifically a bulging disc, during his adolescent years, Patrik Antonius had to stop playing tennis for a while. Because of this, he needed to find an alternative activity in which he can excel in.

Patrik Antonius was actually only 11 years old when he learned the basics of playing poker. He started playing with his friends in his backyard, betting a few cents per day. At around 14 to 15 years of age, Patrik Antonius was able to get back to practicing tennis, but he also spent a lot of time playing poker and winning money on the side. He and his friends spent most of their afternoons playing poker games at the tennis club where they practiced in.

By age 18, Patrik Antonius had won his first poker tournament at Casino Helsinki. Soon after that, he had been a regular at the place, learning new techniques and perfecting his craft. He is now known in the virtual poker world, and has made several TV appearances in many world poker events.

What are the recent biggest achievements of Patrik Antonius in the professional poker industry? In September 2005, at the European Poker Tournament in Barcelona, Spain, Patrik Antonius finished third, and won more than $145,000. A couple of months after that, in October, he won the EPT in Baden, bringing home $343,000. It was in December 2005 when he won the jackpot at the World Poker Tournament at the Bellagio, Las Vegas, Nevada, and received $1,045,000.

From here on, the career and poker prowess of Patrik Antonius just keeps getting better. He currently resides in Las Vegas, with his fiancee Maya and their daughter Mila.
